The base station sits about 8 feet from the phone on my desk and the conference call clarity is excellent. Two heads up: 1. If you want to plug an iPhone into the speaker, the included connection cords (2.5mm to 2.5mm) will not work; you will need to buy a 2.5 to 3.5. I have wasted an hour trying to find one, so that kind of reduces the value proposition here. 2. My SoundStation arrived with power plugs for Europe only. Since I live in California, they are of no use. I called Polycom customer service, who began to pass the buck around. The fourth guy finally referred me to a reseller, who sold them to me and quickly delivered them. The reseller was on the ball, but the Polycom folks were dismal. I ended up having to pay $26 more for their screw up, and again a waste of a good 45 minutes of my time. Net, good hardware, lousy customer service from Polycom, good service from their reseller GBH... Wireless capabilities work great. The IP mode works great, and this lets you use this for a webinar mike and speakers a lot more easily than cabling the AUX OUT.Now the problems: My buyer mistakenly bought the wrong mikes (wireless ones for the VTX1000). I called to get them replaced, because the receiver cords were an inch too short. Seems that's because these mikes aren't supposed to be used with the 2W. Polycom's tech support was shocked to hear the VTX1000 wirelss mikes work at all with the 2W. This is very handy in larger rooms, since the mikes can be passed around the way you would a handheld mike. I've tried connecting five different cell phones, but I can't get the 2W to recognize any of them. It can't be this hard, so I'm assuming I have a defective unit. I'll take one more run at their tech support before sending it back. Looked all over for cabling specs, and they are nowhere to be found. The 2W has no... We're a small organisation and it does roughly what it says and is pretty easy to use. I like being able to plug a mobile phone into it. The wireless feature is very good. (Oddly it has no off-switch which means it isn't possible to leave it charged up and switch it on when you want. You have to leave it in standby mode which runs the battery down over 2-3 days. This means in effect no alternative but to leave it on charge the whole time. Not a huge problem but better to have had a simple on/off). I haven't found the microphones quite as responsive as I'd have expected. In a group larger than just 2-3 when sat comfortably spaced around the table it is necessary to move closer to the microphone when speaking in order to be heard clearly. It also isn't that loud even at full volume. This seems strange - having a powerful amplifier would seem an obvious feature. For the price I would had expected a bit more. Yes it is better than a basic speaker-phone but... Read more |
